In the past, pulmonary hypertension (PH) was considered a rare disease affecting only a few unfortunate people. Today, we know countless individuals suffer from this disease with tragic consequences. But because PH has been a historically neglected disease, advances have been slowed by the lack of sophisticated technology, little financial support, and a small number of physicians and scientists dedicated to its study.

Here at the University of Pittsburgh, we have established a Center for Pulmonary Vascular Biology and Medicine devoted to accelerating discoveries about this disease and ensuring these discoveries are applied directly to improve the lives of our patients. We focus our efforts on innovative ways to identify this disease early such that prevention of this disease may be a reality, to identify the elusive molecules that lie at the beginning origins of this disease, and to develop new treatments that could reverse or cure this disease. Inherent to this mission is improving PH awareness and partnership within our community so that we can combat this disease together. We are excited to update you on our advances over the past year and how you, as our patients, can partner with us to cure this devastating disease.

Inherent to this mission is improving PH awareness and partnership within our community so that we can combat this disease together. We are excited to share this vision with you on University of Pittsburgh/UPMC PH Patient Research Day.
